We are always left with a choice. Choosing one path means giving up many that you haven’t. So how do you know that the path you are walking is a good one? Don Juan, a Yaki Indian, tells UCLA anthropology major Carlos Castaneda, who came to study herbs.
“No path is just one of many; therefore you must bear in mind that the path you are walking is only one; and if you feel unable to follow it while walking along it, you must not stay in it in any situation. It is not at all rude of you or anyone else to abandon the path if your mind tells you to.
Ask yourself this one thing: ‘Does this path contain your heart?’ If you have your heart in it, that path is a good one; if not, that path is meaningless. If you walk on a path with your heart, that path will be a pleasant journey and you will be one with it. If you walk on a path without your heart, that path will make you curse your life. One path makes you strong, the other makes you weak.”
