The reason we have to study philosophy is that we have to have some reference point in our lives. In other words, if it’s different from time to time, we can’t form a social structure because what’s right and what’s wrong becomes too personal. In order to form a social structure, we need to agree on universal values. That’s philosophy, and this is where economics and sociology all come from.
Suicide and murder should not be done.
Murder aside, suicide is… it’s so hard for me to live… I’m so sick, etc. I insist that I have the freedom to harm my body, and I don’t harm others, so why shouldn’t I kill myself?
What is the reason for that?
Kant makes this clear, and in order for it to be moral and valuable, it must be a definite order. This means that only a definite order is moral and valuable. Then, what is the standard for an action to become a definite order? The standard is that human beings themselves should be treated for a purpose. If I kill myself because I’m sick because it’s hard to live, I choose to kill myself as a means to reduce my pain, which means that I have no moral value. In other words, humans should be treated only as the purpose itself and not as a means. If you choose suicide as a means to relieve my pain, humans are used as a means.
Catholicism and Christianity also view suicide as a sin, but the view is similar. If so, the same logic applies to abortion.
We allow abortion now (in the early stages of pregnancy). Many countries allow abortion. We view abortion as a human right of women and argue that this requires a philosophy of social values as a whole. Without such concerns, the argument should be discussed on a more philosophical basis as a woman’s right to freedom of decision.
In Kant’s philosophy, abortion is not a carrot. Because it is killing humans by means for what I do. Humans should be treated as an end, not as a means.
The controversy here is the debate over whether a fetus under 16 months of age is human, which goes without saying has human dignity. This is because the moment you are conceived on the ship, you have a human appearance and express yourself. Self-expression??
When saliva enters the uterus for actual abortion, the fetus runs away.
In other words, it is to recognize and avoid danger. It should be considered that the human person has already been completed.
When we discuss a social topic, a philosophy that pursues universal values should always be involved, but in modern society, this is too neglected.
Let’s look at the case of a strike while increasing the number of doctors. Is this morally justified? How does it look from Kant’s point of view? Is it using humans as a means or as an absolute purpose value?
There are a lot of problems, such as unreasonable government increases,
Neither government leaders nor medical students have philosophy, but only their own interests.
Modernity, which has lost its philosophy, is an important reason why it cannot solve social problems.
