The price of PV modules has dropped to an all-time low. Wholesale prices have dropped to less than 10 cents per Wp. That’s about $60 or 80,000 won for a 630wp panel that’s been used a lot these days. The problem is installation costs. Inflation has kept increasing the cost of installing panels on the roof, making them more expensive than the panels themselves.
If a household uses about 10 kwh of electricity a day and generates electricity for 3 hours, six 630wp panels are sufficient. If you use 20 kwh a day because you use a lot of electricity, you need 12 panels. The price of 12 panels is 960,000 won, and if you call a worker and install it on the roof, you will incur millions of won in costs such as structure cost, existing roof inspection cost, wire connection, expensive cars, workers, and insurance premiums. In other words, the installation cost is much more expensive than the panel.
So, in places where DIY culture has developed, panels are directly installed on garden fences. In places like pictures, the construction is not complicated, and an engineer can come and finish the electrical wiring. Of course, since the power generation efficiency is low, you need to think that it will generate power for two hours, and you need to buy 50% more panels, but this is more economical. The fence in the picture consists of 20 panels, which is about enough to supply electricity to one household.
