renewable energy superpower China

renewable energy superpower China

China is leading the majority of the increase, according to a number of people who have mentioned that the capacity of the world’s renewable energy facilities is rapidly increasing, and Korea is lagging behind the world’s trends. As shown in the figure below, 217 GW, or 62.7 GW, of the 346 GW increase in solar power facilities in 2023, is the increase in China. Wind power facilities increased 116 GW in total, of which 65.4% or 75.6 GW increase is the increase in China’s facilities. Thanks to the recent rapid increase in renewable energy facilities, China has 609 GW of total solar power facilities, accounting for 42.9% of the world’s total solar power facilities of 1419 GW, and 441 GW of wind power facilities of 43.4% of the world’s total wind power facilities of 1017 GW. China is likely to account for more than half of the renewable energy facilities soon. China’s solar and wind power industries will have a global competitiveness thanks to such a strong renewable energy domestic market. Tamgo’s extremely cheap electricity prices are also a major source of competitiveness in the Chinese solar industry.

China also has strong hydropower, so 15.5% (153GWy) of its total power generation in 2021 will be generated by hydropower. Solar power is 3.8% (37.3GWy), wind power is 7.6% (74.9GWy), bio is 1.9% (18.7GWy), and nuclear power is 4.7% (46.5GWy). That’s why China’s proportion of carbon-free power is 33.5%, which is quite high. However, 62.9% is still coal power, which is 620GWy. With the total amount of power generated in the country being about 70GWy, you can estimate how much coal power China has. China, a superpower in renewable energy, has a long way to go before replacing this amount of coal power with solar or wind-oriented renewable energy.
