What does Nvidia Asia tour mean?
I think the future direction that Nvidia suggests is the time for all companies to follow. It seems that the competition is going to be the fiercest here. AMD seems to have a clear business direction… There are a lot of great companies out there.
Has your supercomputer arrived yet?
The CEO, who co-founded the company, could be forgiven for a victory lap after a year of three-fold gains in stock prices and massive hunger for the world’s best-in-class AI accelerator. But that’s not Jensen’s way.
The ever-enthusiastic, leather-clad leader met with prime ministers of Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, and Vietnam to discuss each country’s potential for AI revolution. He didn’t have to be reminded to use Nvidia hardware, as all of them warmly welcomed his visit and, perhaps, tried to attract him. He had the opportunity to sell, but it was the same.
“The demand for Nvidia AI supercomputers is significant. The world’s largest internet and cloud service providers have started the first wave of demand. Here’s the next wave as countries build sovereign AI infrastructure,” Huang said in Japan.
What he and Nvidia are trying to do is go beyond just the world’s best AI chip and come up with the proposition of a more systematic AI development product. Whether it’s called an AI supercomputer, or as Huang recently began to explain, this month’s situation was that every country should have an AI factory.
Nvidia’s vision for the plant is, in the company’s words, “an accelerated computing infrastructure to transform data into intelligence.” And in human language, those with AI chips will know how to best use the new technology than those next to them, given the specific context of their conversations with government leaders.
He strategically chose his visit: Japan is eager to regain leadership in semiconductors and is investing billions of dollars in the effort. Singapore has set a goal to triple the number of AI workers. The stock price of YTL Power International Bhd., a Malaysian utility company, soared to an all-time high after it announced a partnership with Nvidia to build a $4.3 billion AI data center. According to local media reports, Hwang lavished his biggest praise on Vietnam, saying it could be a second home for his company.
In addition to being Nvidia’s main potential customers, these countries also have the potential to strengthen their supply chains. Huang has repeatedly said that Nvidia will seek resilience and do business with as many (trusted) suppliers as possible.
