Eric Schmidt predicted that in the next year or two, AI will make a big breakthrough in three important areas, and their combination will completely change our world.

1. Super Large Context Window

Currently, major AI models are rapidly expanding the size of context windows. “Since January of this year, many companies have expanded context windows to millions of words,” Schmidt explained. This means AI is able to process longer and more complex inputs and maintain “memory” for longer periods of time.

These advances actually have a very wide range of applications. For example, when answering a question, AI can “read” 20 books and then provide a comprehensive answer. Although some of the details in the middle can be forgotten, this ability is already very close to the human way of thinking.

2. AI Agent

AI agents refer to AI systems that can perform certain tasks. Schmidt predicted that more powerful AI agents will emerge in the future, who will be able to read vast amounts of information, discover principles, and apply them to real problems.

For example, he explained, “Some people are actually building large language model (LLM) agents. These agents read academic content like chemistry, discover chemical principles, then conduct tests, and incorporate test results into their understanding. This is very powerful.”

3. From text to action

The “text to action” technology allows AI to directly convert natural language commands into specific actions.

Schmidt offered a thoughtful example. “You can tell the AI, ‘Copy TikTok. Get all the users and music and make the video 30 seconds long to my liking. Distribute this video, and if it’s not viral within an hour, try another way.’ That’s the command.”

Schmidt emphasized that this ability allows everyone to have their own “programmers,” which, unlike actual programmers, will actually carry out your requests without having their own opinions.

The combination of these three technologies will have an unimaginable impact. Schmidt believes this will be greater than the impact social media has had on society, all of which will happen in the next year or two.
