Musk Reaches ˙ To Exclusion Of Brazil’s ˙ X…＂ Starlink Free Open ＂ (Roundup)

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has countered Razil’s X (formerly Twitter) blocking measures.

The New York Times (NYT) reported on the 1st (local time) that billionaire Musk rebelled against the Brazilian Supreme Court’s decision by using his space company SpaceX’s satellite Internet service “Starlink.”

If the Brazilian Supreme Court does not release Starlink-related accounts frozen, it will not follow the X-blocking order.

It also announced a plan to provide free Internet access services to Starlink customers in Brazil.

Earlier, Brazil’s Supreme Court ordered Jair Bolsonaro’s former government-leaning figures to delete the X account, saying they were spreading fake news, which Musk defined as “censorship” and refused.

Musk closed his Brazilian operations in protest of the fine, and the Brazilian Supreme Court later banned the use of X and even bypass access through a virtual private network (VPN).

However, despite these ultra-hardline measures by Brazilian authorities, Brazilians who use the satellite Internet service Starlink can still use X.

In Brazil, where communication networks are not densely installed due to its vast land and natural environment, about 250,000 people are reported to access the Internet through Starlink.

According to the NYT, Brazilian authorities may push for additional sanctions by canceling Starlink’s business license, but it is unlikely to be effective.

Because Starlink does not use the communication infrastructure of a particular country, it can provide an Internet connection without permission.
